Two days, 110 amazing minds, and over 30 feet of real-time graphic recordings capturing the future of Indigenous stewardship! 🌍✨ The 2024 Annual Stewardship Forums Gathering brought together diverse voices to shape the Collaborative Indigenous Stewardship Framework (CISF). From networking to big-picture discussions on co-management, data sovereignty, and ecosystem health, participants are building a stronger, more collaborative future. Here’s to sharing knowledge, inspiring change, and moving forward together! 🙌

Collaboration and strategic vision

The 2024 Annual Stewardship Forums Gathering took place on April 16-17, 2024, focused on fostering collaboration and strategic vision for the Collaborative Indigenous Stewardship Framework (CISF). The event brought together 110 participants from diverse groups, including First Nations, provincial, federal and non-profit representatives to enable networking, share information, and shape the future direction of the CISF. 

Facilitated by Dan George from Four Directions Management, the 2024 gathering fostered networking, relationship-building, and information-sharing among participants, with a particular focus on guiding the future vision of the Forums. Over two days, graphic recording supported the Forum during leadership addresses, presentations and breakout sessions. Graphic recording summarized key information and played a key role during group work, with topics ranging from:

  • Communication (both internal and sharing the Forum success story more widely) 
  • Defining terms including co-management, co-jurisdiction and co-governance
  • Indigenous knowledge and data sovereignty informing decision-making
  • Cultural practices to measure the health of territories and ecosystems
  • Forum data being better positioned to inform different types of decisions 
  • Methodologies for assessing and managing cumulative effects  

30 feet of graphic recordings

By the end of the gathering, with over 30 feet of graphic recordings created in real-time, the visuals reflected important discussions on the progress made and the path forward, emphasizing collaboration, communication, and continuous learning. Building on the successes of previous Forums held since 2018, participants were encouraged to share the knowledge gained and continue their work towards the shared path toward co-management.
