The Positive Space campaign at UBC hosted an engagement session, and we used graphic recording to draw out stories. The Positive Space Campaign’s goal is to make UBC more welcoming to its lesbian, gay, bisexual, and trans (LGBTQ*) community members.
We heard that positive space means the campus is inclusive, welcoming, and people can access everything the campus offers. My live graphic recording image uses iconic UBC buildings to connect people to this shared place of learning. “Positive space” is not just about the buildings, though – it’s about the people. Underneath the buildings, I’ve created images based on relationships and connection.
My favorite line:
“When someone comes out to me, I can respond with love. There is power in this moment.”
