I was contracted to create four posters to engage youth about careers in the trades.
The Transportation Career Development Association is responsible for career accreditation in four sectors: marine, aerospace, construction, and ground. Interesting and diverse careers including driving bulldozers, working on trains or boats, designing aircraft blueprints … and much, much more. In general these sectors depend on highly skilled workers.
Here’s a bit of my behind the scenes process while I drew these infographics.
Once these sketches are approved for the concept, I begin to draw all of the images in detail.
The next version is all black and white.
There were dozens of small images between these 4 posters.
I work in a combination of pen and ink and also a digital tablet. The end result is a vector-based image in Illustrator. For example, I drew this excavator in pen and ink and brought it into Illustrator for edits. Sometimes the line quality is different when working with pen and ink than the digital brushes, and I like the result.
Colour is added next. These colours were chosen from the palette of the TCDA.
