Karma Reine Productions is an event management and concert promotion company. She contacted me about creating a fresh brand and visual identity.
I decided to get out my paint set instead of turning immediately to the computer and Illustrator.
We wanted to communicate how her work brings together different artistic communities, and that her philosophy is that arts communities are vibrant and dynamic.
And specifically, she needed bright colours.
My work flow involves many drafts. There’s scraps of paper lying around my workspace. At first the scribbles don’t mean much – lots of notes to myself, but as the project progresses I see what themes emerge. For example, the top right side of the first image developed into the final version. But it was originally #8 in my concepts.
The second photo here are my notes about possible layouts, and various ways of using a horizontal business card space.
Looking back, this project wouldn’t have worked as well with a digital-only concept. It would have been cold and flat.
The watercolour provides texture and a personality. Yet, it can be easily reproduced on the back of a napkin.
The final presentation for Karma Reine Productions was best visualized with overlapping circles, tied together in a sweeping line of motion.
